Welcome to Falsled Kro

From Smugglers’ Inn to Gastronomic Beacon

Falsled Kro has had a long and, at times, colorful history since 1744, when Count Reventlow was granted royal permission to operate a tavern and distill spirits. Over the years, the inn has also housed a general store and played a central role in the town’s maritime trade for nearly a century. It once served as a summer boarding house featuring dance music, and even a small cinema. At one point, a petrol pump was part of the inn’s operations, standing roughly where today’s electric vehicle charging stations are located.

Eventually, time had caught up with the old roadside inn. In the late 1960s, Lene and Sven Grønlykke purchased the property with a dream of creating a modern roadside inn with international ambitions.

Historic Inn

“The story of Falsled Kro is a chapter of Denmark’s gastronomic history. It is the story of laying the foundation that has helped Denmark earn its reputation as a culinary powerhouse, despite the country’s modest size. It is also the story of two individuals driven by passion, dedication, uncompromising standards, boldness, and at times perhaps even recklessness in their pursuit of perfection. And it is the story of their remarkable ability to inspire others to believe in their vision and give their very best.”
